The Luzerne Conservation District will be hosting the 2017 Luzerne County Envirothon at the Luzerne County Fairgrounds on Friday, April 21, 2017. The Envirothon is an annual environmental competition for high school students. The district coordinates and sponsors the Luzerne County Envirothon each spring. The event is for Luzerne County high school students in grades 9 – 12. It tests their knowledge of the environment at five testing stations: Aquatics, Forestry, Soils, Wildlife, and a Current Issue, which changes each year (this year: “Agricultural Soil and Water Conservation Stewardship”). Each station is facilitated by a different agency: the district, USDA NRCS, PA Fish & Boat Commission, DCNR Bureau of Forestry, PA Game Commission, and DCNR Bureau of Parks. The district coordinates the competition and encourages every school in the county to participate.
Teachers can contact John Levitsky at the district office with questions or for more information (570-674-7991 ext. 5).
