Conservation Education & Outreach
While conservation education is an important part of most of the individual programs at the district, we have several specific efforts to promote environmental stewardship and general awareness of the conservation district and our programs. Some of those efforts included:
- workshops for local government representatives, engineers, farmers, students, and the general public
- Luzerne County Envirothon
- presentations
- camp scholarships (see below)
Summer Camp Scholarship Program
The district also partners with others to help accomplish the shared mission of natural resource conservation. One way to help local students participate in such opportunities is our Summer Camp Scholarship Program.
The Luzerne Conservation District Board of Directors has established a scholarship program to help high school students interested in attending natural resource-related camps, workshops, and similar summer programs. The purpose of this scholarship program is to foster an appreciation for and understanding of natural resources and to help students develop a conservation ethic. Students must be residents of Luzerne County and agree to provide a written report to the District within 30 days of completing their program/camp.
Examples of the type of programs that would be eligible include:
Other camps and programs will be considered. Please contact the Conservation District at 570-674-7991 to discuss them further.
